Help Wanted

The Crystal Lake Catering Company will be hiring in the following positions for the 2009 operating season.

Chef:

This position will become available mid-May, and continue through mid October 2009. You will have the opportunity to work through the winter holiday season as well. An experienced, professional chef who has a proven record of leadership, accountability and success is required. This person must be creative and have both a strong work ethic and drive to always witness progress and improvement.

This position will work closely with the owner of the company who is largely responsible for sales, marketing, and occasionally the role of on-site coordinator and executive chef. You will be expected to prepare high quality foods from standard and original recipes.

We are accepting cover letters and resumes today. Please act now as we are committed to working with a person who knows what he or she is doing now and in the near future and can commit to seasonal employment.

Responsibilities are, but not limited to, the following:

  • Hiring, training and scheduling of sous chef, prep cooks and on-site culinary staff.

  • Working with owner/salesman and client to plan and cost menus.

  • Prepare all food with exceptional quality.

  • Professionally and efficiently set-up, serve and breakdown the food and food service equipment in a smooth fashion at our on and off-premise events.

  • Work closely with on-site service manager and occasionally with the client in a professional and considerate manner.

  • Assist in the coordination of catering service with other special event companies.

  • Maintain Cog's, food preparation costs, and on-site services costs at reasonable, measurable, obtainable goals.

Compensation Package
(Featuring a number of great benefits all of which are negotiable):

  • Outstanding hourly rate of pay. Because we are seasonal and we work only special events you can expect to earn higher pay than local year-around employers could compensate you. Rate of pay range $10 -$19 plus tips. You will be guaranteed $100 per special event.

  • Bonus: We reward outstanding performance by providing a monthly bonus to managers who meet reasonable, and obtainable goals. These goals are fixed to budgeted costs and are measured upon completion of catered events as well at the end of a month.

  • Major Medical Insurance will be made available to you and your family. This includes the option to cover your dental and eye care costs as well.

  • Option to acquire stock as part of compensation package. You may choose to earn sweat equity in the company by allocating a percentage of your earnings into shares of stock in this company. Your shares become vested upon your return to the company the following season.

  • Room and Board is optional as we are located at a resort on a beautiful lake in northwest Lower Michigan. The bedrooms may be available to you at the resort's historic lodge. They share restrooms with the guests and your kitchen will be our commercial kitchen, if desired. Your thoughtful consideration and respect for the resort's guests staying in the lodge is required. You are welcome to any food you choose to eat as you will be responsible for the company's food costs, we trust you will be frugal.

 

On-Site Service and Equipment Manager:

  • Work closely with chef and the client in a professional and considerate manner.

  • Assist in the coordination of catering service with other special event companies.

  • Maintain a par-level of foodservice equipment inventory as well as maintain on-site services costs at reasonable, measurable, obtainable goals.

Sous Chef:

This position will become available on mid-May, 2009 to a creative person with both a strong work ethic and drive to always witness progress and improvement. A wealth of experience is preferable but we believe with proper training the right person can do a great job.

Our sous chef will work with the chef to prepare high quality foods and service the food at a number of on and off-premise venues. Compensation is negotiable and will be largely based on your level of experience and performance. It will include outstanding food prep and on-site service wages, tip income, an option to major medical insurance and possibly room and board.

 

Professional Server:

We are hiring servers with a wealth of experience in service in a fine dinning atmosphere. This position offers lucrative employment that will work around your personal and professional schedule. Our flexible schedule works on a sign-up basis. It offers you minimal hours and yields maximum monetary return.

The Crystal Lake Catering Company will cater multiple functions throughout Benzie, Leelanau, Grand Traverse and Manistee Counties from mid-April thru the end of December. Each event offers as many as 14 hours to a little as 3 hours. You can look forward to a fun and enjoyable work environment. Many of these events are parties in which you have almost as much fun as the guests.

The Crystal Lake Catering Company is located on the north shore of Crystal Lake, very close to Lake Michigan and adjacent to The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Our immediate surroundings are naturally beautiful and almost everything is publicly accessible. Outdoor activities are plentiful as well as equally and fully represented. Lifestyle changes with the season.
